Comedonal acne describes acne in which blocked follicles, called comedones, are a prominent feature. These appear as blackheads or whiteheads. A person can have comedones alongside inflamed spots, so the term does not necessarily describe every lesion on their skin. Healthdirect Australia: Acne

Why the appearance matters

Different bumps can look similar in a mirror or photograph. Tell the clinician where they occur, when they appeared and whether they itch, hurt or become inflamed. A diagnosis should not be made solely from a product advertisement using the word “comedonal”.

If you are taking photographs for a consultation, use clear lighting without filters and include an overview as well as a closer view. Follow the clinic's secure upload instructions. Photographs can help show the pattern but do not guarantee that a remote assessment will be sufficient.

Skin care is part of the history

List cleansers, moisturisers, cosmetics and other products, including how often you use them. Explain whether the problem started after a change in routine. This helps the clinician understand possible irritation or contributing factors without assuming that one product caused everything.

Avoid repeatedly squeezing or scrubbing the skin to remove visible plugs. Acne is not proof of poor hygiene. Ask about a manageable routine that fits your skin and any treatment the doctor considers appropriate. Healthdirect Australia: Acne

Decide how follow-up will work

A plan needs a review point. Ask what changes you should look for, how to respond to irritation and when to get help if deeper or painful lesions develop. Do not interpret every new spot as a reason to add another product immediately.

Doccio's acne consultations can help assess whether the pattern is suitable for online care. The doctor decides what treatment or referral is appropriate. If the skin problem affects your confidence or causes distress, say so explicitly. That impact is part of the consultation, even if the main visible finding is a collection of small bumps rather than large inflamed spots.
