Using Doccio in South Australia

What it's like here

Most South Australians live in and around Adelaide, but a meaningful share live several hours from the nearest practice. For a repeat script or a short absence certificate, an online request is usually the shortest path.

Prescriptions and pharmacies

Prescriptions are issued as electronic prescriptions. You receive a link by SMS and show it at any pharmacy in South Australia that dispenses electronic prescriptions, which is now the great majority of them. Nothing needs to be posted, and you can use the same link at a different pharmacy if the first one cannot fill it.

Certificates and employers

South Australian employers, TAFE SA and the state's universities accept an ordinary medical certificate as evidence of an absence, and Doccio certificates carry a verification reference for employers who want to confirm one.

When to be seen in person instead

Telehealth is not the right choice for everything. If you need to be examined, have severe or rapidly worsening symptoms, or are worried about someone's safety, get care in person. South Australia has Priority Care Centres and Medicare Urgent Care Clinics for urgent problems that are not emergencies.

In an emergency, call 000.
