Same-day online doctor

Need to speak with a doctor today?

You can check Doccio for a same-day online doctor appointment, subject to availability and whether your concern is suitable for remote care. The doctor assesses the problem and recommends the next step; booking today does not guarantee a particular document, prescription or immediate resolution. Explain any worsening symptoms before proceeding, and seek urgent in-person care if the problem cannot safely wait for the available appointment.

Online consultations available during service hours

Same-day consults run during business hours, 8am–6pm Monday to Friday, Sydney time, at $59. Requests outside those hours are treated as after-hours and cost $79.

Not for emergencies

This service suits problems that need attention today but aren't emergencies, such as an infection, a certificate, or a repeat script. Call 000 for anything life-threatening.

Today's consultation price and Medicare

Doccio consultations are $59 during business hours and $79 after hours. The applicable price depends on the consultation period, not whether you booked on the same day. Business-hours pricing is 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday, using the time zone displayed in the booking flow.

These advertised appointments are private-fee services. Do not assume a Medicare rebate or bulk billing is available for your booking. Telehealth Medicare eligibility has its own rules; it is not determined simply by a patient's preference to be seen today. Services Australia provides the current telehealth criteria.

An eligible repeat-prescription request or short certificate request has separate pricing. A full consultation is the appropriate option when you need assessment, a changed management plan or a more complex request.

The consultation fee does not include external pharmacy, pathology, imaging or specialist charges. It also does not guarantee that those services have same-day capacity. Ask about the practical next steps before proceeding, and use Doccio pricing to compare the service you need rather than expecting the booking date to change what is clinically appropriate.

What same-day care should mean

Start with urgency, not convenience

A same-day appointment is not an emergency service. Severe chest pain, breathing difficulty, collapse or stroke-like symptoms require urgent help; call 000 rather than waiting for an online slot.

For urgent concerns that need examination but are not life-threatening, a Medicare Urgent Care Clinic may be a more appropriate local option. Check the service details rather than assuming telehealth is always the quickest safe route.

Make the appointment useful

Write down the main problem, when it began and what you have already tried. Have your medicines and relevant test results available. Tell the doctor if you have seen another service today or received advice you are unsure about.

The appointment should assess your current situation, not simply reproduce an earlier decision without context. Be clear about any deadlines while recognising that an administrative deadline does not determine the clinical outcome.

Some next steps take longer

The doctor may recommend a sample, examination or another clinician's opinion before a decision can be made. Healthdirect explains how virtual care can lead to further in-person assessment.

A same-day conversation can still be useful when it identifies what information is missing. It should not be framed as a promise that every investigation, diagnosis and treatment will be completed within one visit.

Know what to do afterwards

Before finishing, confirm the immediate plan, any required follow-up and what to do if symptoms worsen. Ask how results will be reviewed when testing is requested.

If you need a certificate for an absence, explain the dates accurately. If you need a referral for an appointment already booked, explain that too. The doctor considers the request on its merits rather than guaranteeing a document because a deadline is approaching.
