One-day medical certificate requests - $19
You can request a one-day medical certificate online for $19 when a short illness or injury affects work or another relevant activity. An Australian-registered doctor assesses the circumstances before deciding whether a certificate is appropriate. Tell Doccio the exact date and what you could not do. Selecting one day does not replace an assessment or guarantee that a document will be issued.
What an issued certificate contains
- Your name and the date the doctor can support.
- Relevant wording about the assessed circumstances.
- The issuing doctor's details and actual issue date.
- A Doccio reference for verification.
Your request date, assessment date and certified absence date are not necessarily identical. The document needs to distinguish them accurately.
Who this request may suit
- You need one date of illness-related absence assessed.
- Your employer has asked for evidence for a missed shift.
- You need a short period documented and know the recipient's requirements.
- You are not seeking a specialist report, clearance or extended incapacity assessment.
For caring responsibilities, choose carer's leave. For academic evidence, read the university requirements before choosing a standard request.
How it works

Specify the date
identify the day or shift affected.
Describe the situation
provide symptoms, their timing and relevant medical background.
Complete the assessment
respond to the doctor's questions or attend a consultation if required.
Check the outcome
review any issued document before sending it to the recipient.
Making a short request useful and accurate
A short absence can still need evidence
Fair Work guidance allows employers to request evidence for an absence of one day or less. The request must be reasonable in the circumstances. Read the official evidence guidance rather than assuming there is a universal rule that a single day never requires proof.
Explain the impact, not just the label
Describe what happened and which duties or activities were affected. You do not need to identify the exact diagnosis yourself. A short explanation of the timeline, relevant symptoms and practical limitations gives the doctor more useful information than requesting a document with no clinical context.
One day is not an automatic outcome
The doctor may decide that no certificate is supported, that more information is needed or that your symptoms require fuller medical care. The Medical Council of NSW's certificate guidance explains why certification must be based on an appropriate factual assessment.
Check before sending
Make sure your name, the recipient's requirements and the relevant date are correct. Request a correction through Doccio if needed. Do not alter an issued document or reuse it for another date.
If symptoms continue into another day, seek advice about reassessment rather than assuming the original certificate covers the new period. Read about two-day requests and longer absences.
What the $19 price covers
The advertised price is for the one-day request pathway, subject to assessment and the published payment terms. A more complex concern may require a full consultation at $59 during business hours or $79 after hours. Check any additional fee before proceeding.
Every certificate is verifiable
Employers and institutions can confirm a Doccio certificate in seconds at doccio.com.au/verify, seeing only the details needed to confirm it's genuine.
