Medical certificates online, assessed by a doctor
You can request a medical certificate online through Doccio, subject to an Australian-registered doctor's assessment. Choose the pathway that matches your circumstances, explain the dates involved and provide accurate information about your health. The doctor decides whether documentation is appropriate, whether more assessment is needed and which period can be supported. Paying for a request does not guarantee a certificate. One-day requests: $19. Two-day requests: $29.

Find the right certificate
Documentation for work, caring responsibilities and study — choose the pathway that matches your situation.
Find the right pathway
- Your own illness: choose work or sick leave documentation.
- Caring responsibilities: use the carer's certificate pathway.
- Study affected by illness: check university or school requirements.
- A longer absence: request a consultation for three days or more.
- An earlier illness: read the information about retrospective requests before proceeding.
How it works
Choose the purpose
tell us who needs the document and why.
Describe the circumstances
provide symptoms, dates and relevant background.
Complete the assessment
respond to the doctor's questions or attend a consultation if required.
Receive the outcome
a certificate is issued only when the doctor can support it.
What an issued certificate includes
- Your name and the relevant period covered.
- The issuing doctor's identifying and practice details.
- The actual issue date and appropriate assessment wording.
- A Doccio reference for checking the issued document through verification.
A certificate is not a copy of your medical record. Its purpose is to provide relevant evidence, not to reproduce everything discussed in your consultation.
Choosing documentation that fits the situation
Clinical evidence, not automatic paperwork
A doctor must have a factual basis for what they certify. The Medical Council of NSW explains these responsibilities. Your requested wording may therefore differ from the document the doctor can appropriately issue.
The recipient's requirements matter
For employment, medical certificates are one recognised form of evidence. The Fair Work Ombudsman's evidence guidance explains the relevant framework. Other recipients use their own processes, so provide any instructions before the assessment rather than assuming one document suits every purpose.
Ask whether you need an absence certificate, an institutional form or an assessment addressing particular activities. This can avoid requesting a standard document when the recipient has asked a different question.
Dates need to be accurate
Tell the doctor when symptoms started, when you sought care and which activities were affected. Do not change a certificate yourself or ask for a false issue date. Questions about an earlier period are assessed on the available information, not simply the date you would prefer printed.
Treatment comes before documentation
An administrative deadline should not delay appropriate care. If you need assessment of ongoing symptoms, select an online doctor consultation. Some situations require examination or urgent treatment elsewhere. Healthdirect's virtual-care guidance explains why online services cannot replace every type of assessment.
Pricing
A one-day request costs $19 and a two-day request costs $29. Requests for three days or more require a consultation: $59 during business hours or $79 after hours. Complex or institution-specific paperwork may also require a consultation; check the applicable pathway before payment.
AHPRA-registered doctors
Every consult is with an Australian-registered doctor, accountable to the same standards as your local doctor.
Private and secure
Encrypted consults and records. Certificate checks reveal only what an employer needs to confirm.
Transparent pricing
$19, $29, $59 or $79. You see the price before you start and pay nothing if a doctor can't help.
What is on a certificate?
The doctor's details
Full name, provider number and AHPRA registration, so it can be checked independently.
Dates, not diagnosis
The period you're unfit for work or study. Your condition is never written on the certificate.
A unique verification ID
Each certificate carries an ID your employer can check for free on our verification page — no phone calls, no personal details shared.
Ready in your dashboard
Download the PDF or share a link. It stays available whenever you need it again.
Every certificate is verifiable
Employers and institutions can confirm a Doccio certificate in seconds at doccio.com.au/verify, seeing only the details needed to confirm it's genuine.
