Hours and after-hours care in QLD
Doctor care is available 8am–6pm Mon–Fri (AEST/AEDT) at the standard rate. Outside that window the same consultation is handled at the after-hours rate, and requests are still reviewed by an Australian-registered doctor.
Queensland does not observe daylight saving. From early October to early April, Sydney is an hour ahead of Queensland, so our 8am–6pm weekday hours are 7am–5pm where you are.
Using Doccio in Queensland
What it's like here
Queensland is the most decentralised mainland state, and a large share of the population lives outside the south-east corner. For people in the regions and on the coast, an online request avoids a long drive for something administrative.
Prescriptions and pharmacies
Prescriptions are issued as electronic prescriptions. You receive a link by SMS and show it at any pharmacy in Queensland that dispenses electronic prescriptions, which is now the great majority of them. Nothing needs to be posted, and you can use the same link at a different pharmacy if the first one cannot fill it.
Certificates and employers
Queensland employers, TAFE Queensland and the state's universities accept an ordinary medical certificate as evidence of an absence. Each Doccio certificate carries a verification reference an employer can check.
What it costs
Prices are the same everywhere in Australia. There is no membership and no subscription.
- $191-day medical certificateA single day off work, study or caring duties.
- $292-day certificate or repeat prescriptionTwo consecutive days off, or a repeat of a stable, existing medication.
- $59Doctor careA standard GP consultation, during business hours.
- $79Doctor care, after hoursThe same doctor care outside 8am–6pm Mon–Fri.
When to be seen in person instead
Telehealth is not the right choice for everything. If you need to be examined, have severe or rapidly worsening symptoms, or are worried about someone's safety, get care in person. Queensland has satellite hospitals and Medicare Urgent Care Clinics for urgent problems that are not emergencies, alongside your usual practice.
In an emergency, call 000.
