Hours and after-hours care in NSW

Doctor care is available 8am–6pm Mon–Fri (AEST/AEDT) at the standard rate. Outside that window the same consultation is handled at the after-hours rate, and requests are still reviewed by an Australian-registered doctor.

New South Wales keeps the same clock as Sydney, so those hours are your local hours all year.

Using Doccio in New South Wales

What it's like here

New South Wales is the state most people search from, and it covers a very wide range of access to care — a few minutes from a practice in the inner city, several hours in parts of the Far West and the Riverina. Telehealth is most useful for the straightforward things: an absence certificate, a repeat of a medicine you already take, a referral, or a pathology request.

Prescriptions and pharmacies

Prescriptions are issued as electronic prescriptions. You receive a link by SMS and show it at any pharmacy in New South Wales that dispenses electronic prescriptions, which is now the great majority of them. Nothing needs to be posted, and you can use the same link at a different pharmacy if the first one cannot fill it.

Certificates and employers

A certificate from a Doccio doctor is an ordinary Australian medical certificate. NSW employers, TAFE NSW and the state's universities treat it the same way they treat one from a local practice, and every certificate carries a reference your employer can check on our verification page.

When to be seen in person instead

Telehealth is not the right choice for everything. If you need to be examined, have severe or rapidly worsening symptoms, or are worried about someone's safety, get care in person. For something that needs hands-on care but is not an emergency, NSW has urgent care services and Medicare Urgent Care Clinics in many areas, and your usual practice can often fit in an urgent appointment.

In an emergency, call 000.
