Hours and after-hours care in Sydney

Doctor care is available 8am–6pm Mon–Fri (AEST/AEDT) at the standard rate. Outside that window the same consultation is handled at the after-hours rate, and requests are still reviewed by an Australian-registered doctor.

Sydney keeps the same clock as Sydney, so those hours are your local hours all year.

Using Doccio in Sydney

What it's like here

Sydney has plenty of practices, but same-day appointments in the inner suburbs are hard to get and bulk-billing has thinned out considerably. For a short absence certificate, a repeat of a medicine you already take, or a referral, an online request is usually faster than finding a gap in a clinic's day.

Prescriptions and pharmacies

Prescriptions are issued as electronic prescriptions. You receive a link by SMS and show it at any pharmacy in Sydney that dispenses electronic prescriptions, which is now the great majority of them. Nothing needs to be posted, and you can use the same link at a different pharmacy if the first one cannot fill it.

Certificates and employers

Sydney employers and the city's universities treat a Doccio certificate as an ordinary Australian medical certificate. It carries a verification reference so an HR team can confirm it is genuine without seeing anything about your health.

When to be seen in person instead

Telehealth is not the right choice for everything. If you need to be examined, have severe or rapidly worsening symptoms, or are worried about someone's safety, get care in person. For something that needs to be looked at but is not an emergency, Sydney has urgent care services and Medicare Urgent Care Clinics across the metropolitan area.
