Hours and after-hours care in Gold Coast

Doctor care is available 8am–6pm Mon–Fri (AEST/AEDT) at the standard rate. Outside that window the same consultation is handled at the after-hours rate, and requests are still reviewed by an Australian-registered doctor.

The Gold Coast does not observe daylight saving. From October to April our 8am–6pm Sydney weekday hours are 7am–5pm locally — worth noting if you live on the coast and work across the border in northern NSW.

The Gold Coast has a large hospitality, tourism and construction workforce on shifts, plus a big student population — both groups tend to need short-notice certificates outside ordinary clinic hours.

Prescriptions and pharmacies

Prescriptions are issued as electronic prescriptions. You receive a link by SMS and show it at any pharmacy in the Gold Coast that dispenses electronic prescriptions, which is now the great majority of them. Nothing needs to be posted, and you can use the same link at a different pharmacy if the first one cannot fill it.

Certificates and employers

Gold Coast employers, Griffith University, Bond University and TAFE Queensland accept an ordinary medical certificate as evidence for an absence. Doccio certificates carry a verification reference.

Telehealth is not the right choice for everything. If you need to be examined, have severe or rapidly worsening symptoms, or are worried about someone's safety, get care in person.
