Medical Certificates in NSW

You can request a medical certificate online in NSW from an Australian-registered doctor, without travelling to a practice. Our doctors are registered in Australia and can assess anyone located in New South Wales, from the coast to the far west. Tell Doccio what has happened, the dates involved and what your work or study requires, and the doctor decides whether a certificate is appropriate and what it should say.

What's on the certificate

  • Your name and the relevant dates
  • A statement that you were medically unfit for work or study
  • The doctor's name and AHPRA registration number
  • The assessment date and actual issue date
  • A Doccio verification reference

Medical certificates in NSW

Access to general practice varies enormously across New South Wales — minutes in the inner suburbs, hours in parts of the Riverina and Far West. For an administrative request, an online certificate removes the travel entirely.

NSW employers accept an ordinary medical certificate as evidence for sick or carer's leave, consistent with Fair Work guidance, and every Doccio certificate carries a verification reference.

TAFE NSW and the state's universities accept a medical certificate in support of special consideration or an extension, each through its own process.

Requests are reviewed 8am–6pm Monday to Friday, Sydney time, which is local time across NSW. Outside that window the after-hours rate applies.

Duration and pricing

A one-day request costs $19 and a two-day request costs $29. For three days or more, a doctor consultation costs $59 during business hours or $79 after hours. Paying for a longer request does not guarantee a longer certificate.

Business hours 8am–6pm Mon–Fri

Who this is for

  • People located in New South Wales who are unwell and need evidence of an absence
  • Employees asked for documentation for a missed shift or day
  • Students needing evidence for an extension or special consideration request
  • Carers who needed time away to look after someone else

What a certificate can't do

  • It is not a fitness-for-duty clearance for a safety-critical role
  • It is not a substitute for an examination when one is needed
  • It cannot be backdated beyond what the doctor can clinically justify

Every certificate carries a Doccio verification reference, so an employer or provider in NSW can confirm it is genuine at doccio.com.au/verify. Verification checks the document against the issued record — it does not open your health information to anyone.

Every certificate is verifiable

Employers and institutions can confirm a Doccio certificate in seconds at doccio.com.au/verify, seeing only the details needed to confirm it's genuine.
