Migraine without aura is migraine in which attacks occur without the temporary neurological warning symptoms called aura. Headache may occur with nausea and sensitivity to light or sound. The absence of aura does not mean the attack is mild or that its effect on daily life is unimportant. Healthdirect Australia: Migraine

Avoid comparing only the pain score

Tell the clinician whether you can work, drive safely, care for others or tolerate ordinary light and noise during an attack. Describe the recovery period as well as the most painful hours. These details can help explain why an apparently short episode affects a much longer part of your day.

Keep a record of headache days and the products you use for relief. Include attacks that you work through. Counting only episodes that force bed rest can understate the pattern and make it harder to review the plan accurately.

What if the symptoms change?

New weakness, speech difficulty, major visual disturbance or a sudden severe headache needs urgent assessment. Do not assume a new neurological symptom simply means your migraine has changed category. Call 000 for emergency symptoms. Healthdirect Australia: Migraine

For less urgent changes, arrange review rather than continuing indefinitely with an old plan. Tell the doctor about pregnancy, other medical conditions, changes in medicines and any recent injury. The clinician decides whether more examination or testing is needed.

Use the appointment to plan ahead

Ask how to manage a familiar attack, when prevention should be discussed and what to do if the agreed approach is not helping. Make sure you know whether a follow-up appointment is needed and who will coordinate ongoing care.

Doccio's migraine consultations may provide a starting point for non-emergency assessment. A doctor decides what treatment or referral is appropriate. If work evidence is needed, describe the actual dates and duties affected; having migraine does not automatically establish the duration a doctor can certify for every episode.
