MyGov

myGov is an Australian Government online account that lets people access linked government services in one place. It can provide access to services such as Medicare and Centrelink after the relevant linking steps. It is not a medical provider, a substitute for clinical records held by a practice or a guarantee that every service is automatically linked.

How is it different from Medicare or My Health Record?

myGov is an access point. Medicare, Centrelink and My Health Record are separate services with their own functions and information. Linking one does not necessarily link every other service or transfer all your healthcare records into one complete file.

Check which service you need for the task, such as a Medicare claim, government correspondence or health-record access. A clinic's patient portal is also separate from myGov unless the provider explicitly explains an integration.

How do I use it safely?

Use the official website or app and protect login details and security codes. Be cautious with unexpected messages asking you to sign in or provide personal information. If uncertain, navigate to the official service yourself rather than following an unfamiliar link.

Can a doctor fix my account or claim?

A clinician can provide relevant medical information, but account access and government claim decisions sit with the responsible agency. A medical certificate uploaded through a linked service is not automatically approved simply because the upload succeeded.
