A Schedule 4 medicine is a prescription-only medicine under Australia's scheduling system. Supply generally requires a valid prescription from an authorised prescriber and dispensing in accordance with relevant law. The category does not guarantee that a particular medicine can be prescribed through telehealth or supplied without further clinical checks.
Why is a prescription required?
Prescription controls support assessment of the condition, suitability, dose, interactions and monitoring. The prescriber considers benefits and risks for the individual patient. A request, previous experience or ability to pay does not replace that assessment.
The pharmacist also has a separate responsibility to check the prescription and lawful supply. A prescription may require clarification, and stock availability can affect dispensing. Prescribing and dispensing are connected but distinct decisions.

Can I obtain a repeat online?
A doctor may review whether ongoing treatment is appropriate, but not every medicine or circumstance suits remote care. Examination, tests, records from your regular clinician or specialist input may be needed. State and territory rules and service policies can add relevant requirements.
Have accurate details of current treatment, allergies and monitoring results available. Explain any unwanted effects or changes in health. Do not share medicines, alter doses yourself or use a prescription issued for another person.
How is Schedule 4 different from other schedules?
Schedule 2 and Schedule 3 products can be supplied without a prescription under their respective pharmacy controls. Other schedules involve different restrictions. These categories are legal supply classifications, not a guide for choosing treatment or comparing effectiveness.
Read Doccio's prescription service information before booking. A consultation fee does not guarantee a prescription, and the medicine cost is separate. A doctor decides what is appropriate and may recommend in-person care. If you are running out of established treatment, seek advice early enough for any necessary review rather than assuming immediate prescribing will be possible.
Where to go next
Read prescription consultations to understand the relevant service. A doctor decides whether a consultation, examination, referral or another pathway is appropriate for your situation.
