A vaccination schedule sets out when particular vaccinations are recommended, often by age, risk group or life stage. Australia's National Immunisation Program schedule also identifies funded programme points. An individual's recommended vaccines may differ because of medical history, pregnancy, travel, occupation or previous doses, so the schedule should be applied with appropriate clinical advice.

Is the national schedule the same as every recommendation?

No. National funding, state or territory programmes and individual clinical recommendations are related but not identical. Some recommended vaccinations may not be funded for every person. Ask the provider about eligibility and costs before a planned appointment.

Schedules change, so use the current official version rather than an old printed chart or a social-media image. The Australian Government's schedule is the appropriate starting point, with the Australian Immunisation Handbook providing more detailed clinical guidance.

For the Australian guidance behind this explanation, see Australian Government Department of Health, Disability and Ageing: National Immunisation Program schedule.

What if I missed a dose or have overseas records?

Bring available records to a qualified provider for a catch-up assessment. Do not assume every series needs restarting or that an unfamiliar overseas product can be matched by name alone. The clinician considers dates, age, previous doses and the relevant guidance.

If records are missing, ask how they can be checked and what evidence is useful. Keep new records up to date and confirm how the provider reports the vaccination. A memory of having childhood injections may not provide enough detail for every decision.

Can this be organised through telehealth?

A remote discussion may help review history and plan next steps, but vaccination requires an appropriate in-person provider. Tell that provider about allergies, previous serious reactions, pregnancy and relevant treatment before the dose is given.

See Doccio's online doctor information for its current scope. This glossary does not claim that Doccio administers vaccines or provides every catch-up service. Ask for a clear plan showing what is due, where to attend, any costs and how follow-up doses will be tracked.
